Eid Ghadir-e-Khum

Asgar Fakhruddin

In the year 10 A.H., after performing the last Haj pilgrimage, on 18th Zil-Hijjah , when the different Arab tribes were about to depart for their respective destination from the meeting point of GHADIR-E-KHUM (the pond of Khum) a place near modern day Al-Juhfah - Rasulallah (S.A.) who had earlier received the Quranic revelation - 'O Apostle! Proclaim (the message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His Message. Allah will protect you from Mankind. Verily Allah guides not the people who disbelieve'. (Surah 5: 67)

Rasulallah (S.A.) sent out word to all the assembled caravan who were preparing to depart to gather around him, and those who had advanced were quickly recalled, and thus a multitude of seventy thousand assembled at Ghadir-e-Khum. Salman (R.A.) and other Ashab Kiram were instructed to use rocks to make a pulpit, and the Prophet of Allah sat on the mimbar for nearly three hours, and in his moving eloquence, recited 100 verses from the Holy Qur'an and on 73 occasions reminded the assembled, and warned them of their deeds and hereafter.

The sermon of Rasulallah (S.A.) and the events of Ghadir-e-Khum have been extensively narrated by historians, but for us Mumineen the prophetic words - 'man kunto mawlahu fa' Aliyan mawlahu' has become the corner stone of our faith. It is the bedrock on which the edifice of our faith is built, as such, the day of 18th Zil Hijjah is an important day in our calendar - it is celebration and triumph of our Deen.

It is a singular bounty of our Awliya Kiram and Doat-Mutlaqeen, that each year on this auspicious day, we gather in the Masjid to recall the prophetic words, the events of Ghadir-e-Khum and the Quranic revelation - ' This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion' (Surah 5: 3 part) reassure us that we and only we the followers of the Dai al-Mutlaq Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin Moula (TUS), are the true followers of the Deen that was perfected by Allah on 18th Zil-Hijjah - 10 A.H.

Islam was perfected only when the rightful 'vasi' was conferred with 'nas' and each year we Mumineen recall our allegiance to Aqa Moula (TUS) in a sense it is a celebration of the 'nas' conferred by Rasulallah (S.A.) on Moulana Ali (S.A.). Misak is in fact a reaffirmation of our faith, our piety, our continuity, our submission to the Will of Allah and His Vali. It is celebration of being part of the caravan whose 'rehbar' and 'hadi' is our beloved Aqa Moula (TUS), who is leading us to the realm of purity, spirituality, bliss, salvation and everlasting life with the words, as expressed by his illustrious predecessor - Syedna Taher Saifuddin Moula (R.A.)

'madihokumu ya ala fatema-tal-ridha
ila suhekum li khairo hadin va sa'eki'

So come 18th Zil -Hijjah we Mumineen will gather in the Masjid all around the world reaffirming our faith and celebrating with our Aqa Moula (TUS) like one single entity, the glorious and historic events of Ghadir-e-Khum - the place which has become the symbol of our faith and veneration. May Allah grant my beloved Aqa Moula sehato-afiyat-ta-Qiyamat. Ameen.
