 TEHREEFAAT IN ZIKRE HUSAIN (A.S).

Preachers of tragic episode of Karbala have committed Tehreefaat in original historical facts, either in prose or poetry. Tehreef means to add, increase or decrease in the real facts. Tehreef, means transportation of words, so as to change the meaning, deliberate alteration, distortion, tampering with. Tehreef is totally a shameful, immoral act and habit. In Ayat No. Seventy five of Surah Baqarah, it has been clearly mentioned that Tehreef is the habit of the Jews, which is in their blood. Sometime people used habit of Tehreef in day today matters, i.e. two persons are discussing on any particular point or matter, but when the same matter is transmitted to a third person and from him/her to the fourth person with Tehreef, the whole matter or text changes it’s Shape and spirit. When such Tehreefaat are committed in the matters related to divine personalities, whose influence covers the whole society, disaster and destruction is but natural, not only this but the result of the Tehreefaat is very dangerous. For creating poetic charm and attraction, this bad habit gives great loss to the cause of the divine personalities. Tehreef is an unpardonable sin.

The right hand of Ayatullah Khomeni, Ustad Ayatullah Murtaza Mutharri Shaheed wrote a book, Tehreefaat Waqea Karbala, in which he boldly and clearly condemned those past and present Zakereen (Orators and Marsia writers), who indulged in Tehreefaat, whether it is poetry or prose. Ayatullah Mutharri rebuked such professionals openly, who maliciously use Zikre Husain (A.S) and falsely defend themselves with lame excuses that their intention is pious, their ultimate aim is Bukaa lamentation and sorrow upon Imam Husain (A.S), hence Tehreefaat is done. The question is this, did the Zulm, Afaat and Bala at Karbala, which Imam Husain (A.S) faced, not enough for the tears to flow from the eyes of soft hearted, sincere devoted Muslims? Taharat of speech and thought are conjoined with Taharat of Aqeeda and soul, which are essential prerequisite for Zikre Husain (A.S). But many poets and Zakereen use intoxicants or stimulants before Zikre Husain (A.S). So, why should not our hearts break on this Zulm on Zikre Husain (A.S), done by Ulama al Soo. Through Tehreefaat such people exploit the Ummah on the name of religion and mislead the Aeteqadaat. There is no place in Islam for mythology, or for their vested interest and to receive Wah---Wah Subhanallah from the crowd, some exploiters present Hadisae Karbala as a mythological tale. Such Marsia and Zikar will not lead the Ummah towards a revolutionary change. Such practice was done first in Iran then in India, it flourished during the last phase of Oudh Empire at Lukhnow, when in those days everywhere mythological story tellers held the control, whether it was the court or road, the cursed elements of fiction and mythology got much space and applause in the Marsia.

Ayatullah Murtaza Mutharri issued a Fatwa for the followers of his school, that if Tehreefaat appeared in any Majlis, then such a gathering should be treated as a Haraam. After listening to the Riwayaat on the basis of Tehreefaat, there is no use of Bukaa and Azaa, crying and weeping and wetting the handkerchief with tears. No doubt if one can have an ooze of even a drop from an eye, on the Hadisaae Azeemah (real episode or tragedy of Karbala) with sincerity of heart, he/she will get the reward. The punishment of Ghuloo (exaggeration) is Azaab. The cause of the destruction of Ummate Musa (A.S) was disrespect to their divine guides. The reason of the destruction of the Ummate Essa (A.S) was Shirk. They upgraded the status of Essa (A.S). Both the Ummats committed the Sin of Tehreefaat.

Syeda Zainab (A.S) and Syeda Umme Kulsum (A.S) are the arch guides for Zakereen, Marsia writers and reciters. Through their exemplary offices, one can learn how to say Marsia. They were the orators and poets by birth and trained by Ali (A.S). Their Marsias are pure from unnecessary majestic words, drama, Tehreefaat and exaggeration. Through the Marsias of these Princess this message is communicated to the Ummah that Marsia is not only for crying and weeping, lamentation and Maatam, but it is a message for Dawat of Tawheed and Adal. It is a media to communicate the message of Amar Bil Maroof Wa Naha Anil Munkir.

 SHORT HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF MARSIA:

Marsia or elegy has been common form of expression throughout the ages, but in Arabiyah during the period of Jahiliyah (before the dawn of Islam) it was normally a short poem of about fifteen or twenty verses, since the dead were not capable of rewarding the poets. On the other hand the Qasida being in the praise of the living became very popular, and Marsia lost its importance. After the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S.) at Karbala, importance of Marsia built-up day by day. Previously Marsia was written for everyone but after the great tragedy of Karbala, only an elegy which is written and recited in the sacred memory of Imam Husain (A.S.), his Ahlul Bait (A.S.) and his companions (R.A). The basic theme of Marsia is Walayat of Ahlul Bait (A.S.), the only compensation and recompense which Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) demanded from the Ummah as a Ajar for the Risalat and Hidayat towards the Siraate Mustaqeem. The importance of the Marsia and its religious value also clarifies through this Hadith, when Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) informed Syeda Fatema (A.S) of the Shahadat ‘in store’ for Husain (A.S), she burst into tears and asked, O my father! When would my son be martyred? "In such a critical moment", replied Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) "when neither I nor you, nor Ali or Hasan would be alive. This accentuated her grief and she inquired again, who then, O my father! Would commemorate Husain’s Shahadat? Replied Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.), the men and women of my Ummah, who will be friend of my Ahlul Bait (A.S.), will mourn for Husain (A.S) and commemorate his Shahadat each year in every century. There are so many Ahadith with special reference of Ajar and Sawab for Bukaa, Nohaa and Aza on Imam Husain (A.S). Marsia is simply a following of the tradition of Syeda Zainab (A.S), the Arch guardian of Philosophy of Shahadat, who first recited the Marsia at Karbala after the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S). Syeda Zainab (A.S), Syeda Umme Kulsum (A.S), Syeda Sheher Bano (A.S) and other members of Ahlul Bait (A.S) alongwith the devotee’s Marsias are still preserved in the pages of history. During the tyranical period of Bani Umayyah and Bani Abbas, Marsia played an important role to communicate the divine message of Imam Husain (A.S). Followers of Ahlul Bait (A.S) learned the genuine faith of Islam through the source of Marsia in all ages. Kumyyat Asdi was a famous and devoted poet of Ahlul Bait (A.S). Once he presented a Marsia before Imam Ali Zainul Abedeen (A.S) (the great grandson of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A)) who praised his Marsia in these words. O Kumyyat! We are unable to give you reward for Marsia. Kumyyat replied, my lord! Kindly shower upon me your blessings, and I need your Ahsaan, please give me your used clothes as Tabarruk.

Ali b, Ismail Tamimi narrates from his father, I was present with Imam Jafar us Sadiq (A.S), when permission for famous reciter of Marsia, Hameri’s was sought. Imam ordered that Hameri may be allowed to come in and his family may be seated behind the curtain. Hameri entered the house, paid Tasleemaat and took his seat. Imam Jafar us Sadiq (A.S) wished of him that he may recite Marsia. He recited this Marsia. "Do pass by the Qabar of Husain, and say to his pure chest bones. O bones! Always and continuously get succulented by the rainful clouds of tears". Hameri says, I saw that the tears rolled down from the eyes of Imam Jafar (A.S) over his cheeks and from inside his house the noise of weeping and lamentation arose in the memory of Imam Husain (A.S), (Aghani, vol. 7, pg. 260).

Abu Ammara, the famous poet of Ahlul Bait (A.S) narrates that once he appeared before Imam Jafar us Sadiq, (A.S). Imam asked him O Abu Ammara! Do recite Marsia in the memory of our grandfather Husain (A.S) in your usual style. Abu Ammara said that he obeyed the order of the Imam and recited the Marsia. Imam Jafar (A.S) wept and noise of Bukaa and cries also arose from the Haram (female section of the house). After Ammara finished the Marsia, Imam gave him tidings of Jannat in these words. O Abu Ammara! The one who recites the Marsia of our grandfather and if forty, thirty, twenty, ten or only one person can weep & cry upon Husain (A.S) then Jannat is Wajib for that reciter of Marsia.

This is the reason that all over the world, after the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S), in all languages, poets presented through Marsia their deep and sincere sentiments and inner feelings. It is a historical fact that Marsia enriched the literature, whether it is in Arabi, Farsi or Urdu. Every student of literature knows that position of Marsia is very high in Muslim literature. In Urdu, names of Mir Anis and Mir Dabir are very famous for Marsias; Mir Anis explained the events of the History with special reference of Karbala in his Marsias in purely Indian atmosphere. Mir Anis had a command to express his views and sentiments in so many different ways in different words. The customs, traditions, scene and discussion of his Marsias has no relation with the geography of Arabiyah, which he describes. Similarly Mir Dabir did, difference was only this that Dabir used majestic words and more literary diction. But none of them recreating the original atmosphere of the place of tragedy that took place over forteen hundred years ago. Artificial discussions, events and exaggerations are largely present in the work of both.

SOME UNIQUE FEATURES OF THE MARSIA.

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) wrote a unique Marsia, which is a rare and unparalleled addition to the Arabi Literature in the year 1348 A.H. at Karachi, Pakistan by erudition. The language of this Marsia is Arabi; but its accent and lyric is Indo Pakistani style, portraying grief and sorrow. The words used in this Marsia are chosen and selected such, that even a person not conversant with the Arabi language and knowing only the rudiments and ABCD of Arabi, gets saddened after hearing it. While it is but a natural process for the person knowing the Arabi language that he/she begins weeping on account of extreme sorrow & grief. There is no precedent in the literary history of the Arabi Language of such a long Marsia, which is full of oratory. Every stanza consists of seven verses, while the total number of stanzas are fifty one. Syedna Tahir Saifuddin’s number is also fifty one among the Doat Mutlaqeen of Dawat Fatemiyah, who continued the Tehrik of Amar Bil Maroof Wa Naha Anil Monkir, during the period of Satar (seclusion) of Fatemi Imam. Dai al Mutlaq is the one, who appointed by the Nass and who took up the responsibility of Dawat Fatemiyah and charge of the guidance of the followers under the Divine instructions of the Fatemi Imam. It was his profound devotion that he completed the Marsia of Imam Husain (A.S) in fifty one stanzas. This Marsia is very popular, not only in India and Pakistan but around the world, millions of devoted followers of Imam Husain (A.S) have memorised it. The presence of this Marsia on the Maqsoorah (Zarih Mubarak) of Imam Husain (A.S) is a clear proof and evidence of its acceptance by Imam Husain (A.S). Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) is one of those famous and outstanding personalities of the Dawat Fatemiyah whose description is quite novel. The like of this Marsia is not found among the works of the poets of Ajam but also not available among those of the poets of Arabiyah. Allah had gifted this son of Ajam a wonderful insight into the Arabi language. It is not possible to discuss on the literary merits and beauty and unique features of this Marsia in a few words and lines. I am mentioning only a few points which confer a distinctive and outstanding place to this Marsia among other Marsias:-

Mention of only authentic events based on true historical facts. (2) The poignancy and depth of grief and sorrow.(3) Selected and chosen words. (4) The beauty of verses. (5) Details of the virtues of chosen personalities. (6) Metaphors, idioms and phrases. (7) Sanaey Wa Badaey. In short all those elements were welded together in the bracelet of the Marsia like pearls in a rosary on account of which a clear vision and a vivid picture of the greatest tragedy of Karbala is painted before the eyes of the reader or listener of this Marsia. An outstanding feature of the personalities of Fatemi Literature is this that no method or matter should be resorted to formerly exciting grief or provoke emotionalism. They concentrate that realism should be brought forth through their works. Acting upon high Fatemi Tradition and practices, personalities of the Dawat Fatemiyah restricted their pen while writing prose and poetry and saved the readers from straying their imagination and wondering and wandering into the valley of darkness.

 WHO AHLUL BAIT ARE?

Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) said, that dearest member of my family to me is Fatima (A.S), the dearest daughter. Ali needs no introduction. Historians record that Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) considered Imam Husain (A.S) as his own son. Thus Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) very emphatically declared Husaino Minni Wa Anaa Min Husain (Husain is from me and I am from Husain). In these words Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) covered the vast ocean of Ilme Ladunni (Divine Knowledge). This is a very famous Hadith, which is quoted, in all authentic books. This statement is not accidental or as a result of any passion or emotional strain as is wrongly claimed many a times by Munafeqeen. Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) did not say or act but always under the divine instructions of Wahi. This declaration came from the most responsible, wise leader and Divine Guide, of the Universe. Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) so comprehensively described the exalted position of Imam Husain (A.S) which he possessed in these words.

YA HUJJATAR RAHMANE, YA SAFWATAL AZMANE, YA ALAMAL IMANE, YA MUTIY AN LILAMANE, YA AKRAMAL KURAMAE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAE.

(O Allah’s Hujjat! O essence of the periods! O sign of the Imam! O hope for the seekers of benedictions! O most generous amongst generous! O Husain our grief upon you, O the leader of the martyrs,). In this seven verses stanza, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) explained the divine status of Imam Husain (A.S) in just few words. If anyone would like to write on above mentioned stanza, he can easily write volumes and volumes only on this one stanza. Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) who never committed a mistake during the performance of Risalat. At a certain time the Muslims at Madina deeply felt the glory of the message of Islam and as such they intended to reward the Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) for his efforts in guiding them. The Ujrat or gift they presented to Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) was some gold, which they had collected. Rasoolullah's reply came in the following Ayat known as Ayat al Qurbaa, which was revealed during the incident. "Say: I demand not of you any recompense for it, save the love of my relatives (Ahlul Bait)" (Quraan, 23/42). Al-Kashaaf narrated when this Ayat was revealed, people asked, O, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.)! who are those of kin which this Ayat makes their respect Obligatory upon us? Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) answered, "They are Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain". He was indicating respect to some specific, chosen and selected people, not just because they were his nearest and dearest blood relatives as such, but the real reason behind this respect was to safe guard the Message of Islam. The role they assumed to play in the History of Islam required such respect in order to enable them to perform their task. Al Hakim, famous commentator of Quraan narrated through Abu Said Al Khidri that Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) said, "He who dislikes us, we the Ahlul Bait, Allah will teach him/her in Hell". This implies on those who dislike conduct of Islam and Ahlul Bait (A.S).

 HUSAIN BELOVED OF ALLAH.

Imam Husain (A.S) was born a year after his elder brother Imam Hasan (A.S), on the 3rd of Shabaan, the 4th year of Hijrah. Imam Husain (A.S) was born like Yahya (A.S) and Essa (A.S), in six months. A narration about Imam Husain's birth comes to us from Safiyah (R.A), the daughter of Abdul Mutallib (R.A), regarding the holiness of the event and the expectations and joy of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A). She says: "When Syeda Fatima (A.S) gave birth to Imam Husain (A.S), I was with her. Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) asked where is my son? Safiyah replied, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) I have not cleaned him yet". Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) replied" there is no need to clean him, Allah has already cleaned and purified him". Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) loved his grandson very much, therefore he visited the house of his daughter Fatima (A.S) daily. It is one of the universally acknowledged event of the life of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) that once when He was performing Imamat in Masjid Nabawi and was in Sajda, Imam Husain (A.S) came and strode on the back of his grandfather. Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) remained in Sajda until Imam Husain (A.S) got down from his back. When the Salaat was over, people asked from Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) that why he prolonged the Sajda for such a long time, was he receiving Wahi during Sajda? Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) replied that under the divine instruction of Wahi he had to do it till Imam Husain (A.S) himself got down from his back, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) did not act of his own accord but at the revealed will of Allah.

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) known to the world as great Muslim spiritual guide, who devoted his whole life to awaken the Ummah and to make it pursue the path of spirituality, Knowledge, Jihad and sacrifices. Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) had an abiding faith in Ahlul Bait (A.S). He was intensively moved by the tragic events of Karbala so much so that in many of his couplets he carried a universal message to the Ummah for emulating Imam Husain (A.S), who accepted Shahadat for the safety and integrity of the Religion of Islam. Syedna Tahir Saifuddin's Marsias in Arabi, Urdu, and Gujrati stand unmatched and are an eye opener to all those who are merely giving a lip service to Islam. In the following couplets of Salaam, Aala Hazrat, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) gives vent to his sentiments and feelings on Imam Husain (A.S). His poetry is noted for its purity of thought and language, brilliance of expression and expressive and impressive examples. His command over prose and poetry has amazed countless scholars every where.

"YA IMAMAL HAQQAY MAULANAL HUSAIN, SAFWAT ALLAHAY WA SAFWAL MUSTAFAYN."

(O'Imam of the Haq! O'my Lord Husain! O' one of the chosen persons of Allah and prominent among His selected ones).

"YA HUSAINABNA ALIYEL MURTAZA, ANTA WALLAHAY LAHOO QURRATU AIN"

(O'Husain! O'son of Ali! By Allah, you are Noor of Ali's eyes).

"JADDUKAL MUKHTARU TAHAA RAHMATULLAHAY MINHA ANTA YA MOLAYA AIN."

(Your grandfather Tahaa Mohammad (S.A.W.A) is Allah's Rahmat and my Lord you are Noor of Rasoolullah's eyes).

SUBLIME POSITION OF IMAM HASAN & IMAM HUSAIN.

It is noteworthy that both Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) were of tender ages when children generally remain with parents. In the small party taken out by Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) for Mubahela parents of Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) namely Amiral Momeneen Ali (A.S) and Syeda Fatima (A.S) were included and therefore in the ordinary course of events the two children should have been with their parents. On the other hand it is seen that Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) took both Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) with himself and did not leave them to remain with the parents. Surely if Imam Hasan (A.S) would have been walking with Amiral Momeneen Ali (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) could have been in the arms of his mother Syeda Fatima (A.S), the position of either of them would have become just subsidiary and it could be said that they came with the party as they were of tender ages and could not leave the parents. By taking both Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) with him instead of leaving them with their parents, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) certainly intended to show to the world for all times to come that these two 'Sons' had not been brought for the Mubahela just because they were of tender ages and could not remain seperated from the parents, but because of their high potential as 'Saviors of Islam' in future and as 'Embodiments of Truth' so as to stand the test of Mubahela in the position of the ‘Sons’ of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) mentioned in the Ayat. Further in Arabi the plural number begins from three, not from two. For two there is another word and form of expression in Arabi language. As it has been seen that Ayat of Mubahela uses the plural number of 'Sons', but Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) took only Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) who being only two could not normally satisfy the requirement of the Ayat. This proves that there were no other sons in Islam high enough in excellence and merit even in potential to stand the test of Mubahela with the Christians. It may be said by way of conclusion that by taking al Khamsatul Athaar or Panjatan Pak for Mubahela, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) demonstrated openly and beyond any shadow of doubt before the whole crowd of Muslims who had gathered and collected to watch the event of Mubahela that Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) hold the status of the Sons of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) and this alone, to the exclusion of all other sons among the Muslims, were fit to qualify to be taken for Mubahela in compliance with the word of the Ayat Abnaana (our sons). Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) introduced this high status of Imam Husain (A.S) in his Arabi Salaam so nicely. Those benefitting from the Arabi Literature would always remain grateful to him. Not only Arabi prose but also poetry flowed in his viens. Salaam has been common throughout the ages, but in Arabi literature we can not find long poems of Salaam as we can easily find in the vast collections of Fatemi personalities.

"ALAYKA SALAMULLAHAY MAZLOOMAY KARBALA, IMAMAL HUDA KAHAFAR RADA KASHIFAL BALA."

(Aallah's Salaam on you O’Mazloom of Karbala, O'Imam of Haq, who always called towards Hidayat, who is a fondest of refuge for Mazloom and the one through whose Wasila all Bala should vanish).

"ALAYKA SALAMULLAHAAY YABNA MOHAMMADIN, ATA RAHMATAR RAHMANAY LIL KHALQAY MURSALA".

(Allah's Salaam on you O'son of Mohammad, who came as Rahmat for the entire Universe from Allah).

 HUSAIN, SUCCESSOR OF RASOOLULLAH (S.A.W.A.).

Imam Husain (A.S) was a personified and living image of his grandfather Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.), famous scholar of Ahle Sunnat, Ibn Kaseer Dameshqi says "The functions of the heredity had its full play in Imam Husain. He had inherited all the divine native endowments from his illustrious and magnificent grandfather, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) and his divine parents. The beloved grandson of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) took over the charge of guidance of the Muslim Ummah soon after the Shahadat of his brother Imam Hasan (A.S). Imam Husain (A.S) like his father, brother and sons, is an Imam appointed by Allah and hence worthy of being obeyed and followed, as Rasool of Islam (S.A.W.A) assigned the Imam as his successor by so many Divine Decrees. Under the threat of sword the power of the Muslim government and so called Khilafat was transferred to Yazid by force, who was not fit for that office and high status and for that matter he did not deserve even the smallest post in Muslim Government. Everyone knows that Imam Husain (A.S) totally refused to accept Yazeed as the Khalifa of Muslim Ummah for so many valid reasons.

 WHO YAZID WAS?

To understand Imam Husain (A.S) and his Shahadat (supreme sacrifice) it is really important and necessary to known who Yazid was? Yazid’s upbringing was greatly influenced by the Christians with ways almost entirely different to those in Islam. There is hardly any historian who doubts in his heresy, his contempt for Shariat of Islam and his indifference to those acceptead rules which where a common practice among the Muslim Intelligentsia. Yazid was brought up in a family whose atmosphere was electrified with emotions and vengeance of the dead, who fought against Islam. Yazid had some unique qualities in the pervert sense. He was known as a Playboy during his youth. Historians recorded him as a known drunkard and adulterer leading a very corrupt life. He was also habitually addicted to narcotics and gambling. Says famous historian Hitti, "He was the first confirmed drunkard among the Muslim Caliphs and won the title of Yazid al Khamoor, the Yazid of wine. One of his pranks was the training of a pet monkey, "Abu Qays", who always dressed up like Muslim Ulama and who would participate in his drinking bouts. He also played with monkeys and dogs. He often referred to Islam in an insulting language. The famous historian of Ahle Sunnat, Ibn Kaseer Dameshqi mentioned in his famous book Al Badaya wal Nihaya that Khalifa Abdul Malik bin Marvan Umawwi mentioned in his speech about his nearest and dearest blood relative, Yazid, was an adulterer and a top class rapist and sodomite, who committed these sins regularly. Such where the attributes of Yazid who was the so called Khalifa of the Muslims and was also called (very unfortunately) Amirul Momeneen. The so-called Muslim Government under Yazid had also adopted the worst way of rulership and their acts were also highly objectionable. Yazid infused a fresh spirit in the dead mission of his ancestors whom Ali (A.S) & Hamza (A.S) had consigned to Hell by their unique contribution in Jihad with Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), by boldly slaying all of them by their swords. Immediately after taking over the charge and power, Yazid had declared, "I should not be regarded as of Bani Khandaf, if I do not take revenge of my ancestors from the descendants of Mohammad". During that dark period of Muslim history according to Allama Ibn Hajar Makki, author of Sawaiq Moharraqa, palace of Khalifa had become a centre of debauchery. Beautiful girls were easily available for Zina, in the open market. Adultery and sodomy had become rife. The famous scholar of Ahle Sunnat, Allama Zahbi wrote in History of Islam, "Yazid indulged in Zina with Zawatul Arham (those with whom Nikah is totally Haraam) and public followed him. Instead of Salaat and Fast of Ramadan, profligacy and licentiousness continued every day, during the month of Ramadan. In place of the Azan, filthy, and provocative sexy songs were sung. In order to wipe out the Sunnat of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) and to enliven the memory of Hinda, who got title from many Western Historians as Hinda, the "Liver Eater" and Somayya, Red light areas were opened in the nooks and corners of Damascus for fulfillment of sexual desires. Yazid openly declared wine as Halal. He also began to insult and mock Quraan and Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A). A man of this type and kind can be a hero of the Film world but not the Ruler of the Muslims. Anyone who studies closely the history and life of Imam Husain (A.S) and Yazid and the conditions and situations that prevailed at that time, and analyses on this chapter of Muslim History, will have no doubts, that, in those circumstances there was no `other better choice before Imam Husain (A.S), but to be accept Shahadat. Swearing allegiance to Yazid would have meant, the publicly showing of contempt for Islam, something which would not have been possible for the Imam, for Yazid not only showed no respect for Islam and its injunctions but also made a public demonstration of impudently trampling under his foot, its basis and its laws.

HIKMAT OF THE ACTS OF IMAMS.

How could Imam Husain (A.S) accept Yazid’s anti-Islam rule, by pledging allegiance? That is one of the many valid reasons why

Imam Husain (A.S) totally rejected him. From this it can be concluded that the claims of some interpreters of these events, is false when they say that the two brothers, Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Husain (A.S) had two different tastes and that one of the brother made a peace treaty with the Ruler of Syria, although he had an army of forty thousand soldiers. For we, see that Imam Husain (A.S), who refused to pay allegiance to Yazid even for one day, lived for ten years under the rule of Yazid’s father in the same manner as his brother who also had lived for ten years under the Ruler of Syria. It must be said as a matter of truth, that if Imam Hasan (A.S) or Imam Husain (A.S) had fought with the Ruler of Syria, they would have been killed, without their being of any benefit to Islam. Person like us can, under no circumstances agree to take an oath of allegiance to such an immoral and debauch person like Yazid, this was not possible for Imam Husain (A.S) either.

 THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE FOR HUSAIN.

It is not possible to perceive the greatness of Imam Husain (A.S), when he was seeing that his grandfather’s (S.A.W.A) entire efforts were coming to a nought or that his father Ali’s Sabar or patience were becoming fruitless and that his brother Hasan’s efforts for peace and his Shahadat (due to poison administrated by the Bani Umayyah) were being forgotten by these people. Then in such circumstances the sum total of his mother Syeda Fatima’s teaching was that for the sake of survival of Islam and the preservation of the Kalima La Ilaha Illallah Mohammadun Rasoolullah he should offer Shahadat of his blood. Should Imam Husain (A.S) not oppose Yazid Maloon in these circumstances? How could it be possible that Imam Husain (A.S) should have watched all these sins and great crimes with equanimity? It was a great sin to remain silent in such unfavourable circumstances for Imam Husain (A.S) and his followers. Hence why should not Imam Husain (A.S) become uneasy and restless about whom there are numerous Ahadith of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) available in many books? The valiant son of Ali (A.S) came to Karbala in order to apprise the world that only that person had a right to rule over the Muslims who acted upon the injunctions of Islam in total. The cursed Yazid knew fully well that he could have no fear from anybody except Imam Husain (A.S). Hence alongwith demanding oath of allegiance and obedience from Imam Husain (A.S) he also threatened him that if he did not take oath of allegiance, he would not remain alive. The words Imam Husain (A.S) used in reply are like a bright lamp for those who seek and need guidance. He said, "By Allah I cannot accept the disgrace of Yazid’s allegiance. Rather I should like honorable death in the way of Allah to establish His Dawat by way of Shahadat. Death with honour is better than a life of humiliation. At this critical juncture, Imam Husain (A.S) had only three alternatives, either (1) war against Yazid, or (2) safety of life by making peace treaty, or (3) Shahadat (Martyrdom). The first two were impractical to the Imam, as both war and peace treaty had been attempted by his father Ali (A.S) and his brother Hasan (A.S) respectively with the Ruler of Syria, but in vain. Shahadat (Martyrdom) then, was the only alternative by means of which the grandson of the Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) wanted to achieve the ultimate.

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) was a Dai of Imam Husain (A.S). He spent his whole life for the Khidmat of Imam Husain (A.S). To look for Syedna Tahir Saifuddin’s mind one has, therefore, to look at his Marsias, of which he is the greatest poet, and through which he expresses the whole Philosophy of Shahadat and concept of Aza and Bukaa on Imam Husain (A.S). He created a burning beauty from the intensity and sensitiveness of his nature, and used such language with profound grace that weaves a pattern of light around words, discarding the suspect and fewer perfects, making Arabi Marsia illustrious and nobel. Love of Munajaat, Naat, Manqabat, Marsia, Salaam, Qasida was inborn in Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A). He enriched the present Arabi literature by introducing old idioms, phrases, terms and forms of many expressions. There is no Arabi poet in the sub-continent who could enrich Arabi literature through his contribution like Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A).

"YABNA RASOOLILLAHEE, YA KHAIRA SHAHNSHAHEE, AHHIN ALAIKA FAAHEE, TATRA BEGHAIRE TANAHEE, MAA DAMATIN HAMRAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SAYADASH SOHADAEE.

(O’Son of Rasoolullah! O’ the very best Emperor (of the Kingdom of heart and Souls), on your great distress, tragedy, Bala and Musibat, we continually offer sorrow and grief on you and loudly pronounce slogans of Ah! our blood converts into tears in your sorrow as it oozes out from our eyes. O’Husain! Our un countable and unlimited grief upon you, O’leader of the martyrs).

SOME QUESTIONS TO THE LOVERS OF YAZID MALOON.

Yazid who was a claimant for a leadership of Muslim Ummah, on hearing refusal of Imam Husain (A.S) for swearing allegiance to him, propagated Imam Husain (A.S) as a rebel of Muslim State by official media. Even today the worshipers of falsehood who for acquiring worldly wealth and other advantages regard everybody as their Religious Guide or Amir, hold this absurd and wrong notion that Imam Husain (A.S) had taken the risk of life for acquiring political power. Evaluate these pertinent Questions. (1) Does a conqueror march against an army of many lakhs with a caravan of only seventy two persons amongst whom were women and children, a sick son, infants and old persons? (2) Does a conqueror march against his enemy during the season of Haj by changing Ahraam of Haj into Umra while leaving a throng of thousands, where he could enlist a huge army by virtue of his Hashimi oratory and the nobility and heirship of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) and Ali? (3) Could an invader or rebellion send a helpless ambassador without any force who was Muslim bin Aqeel (R.A) for the conquest of Kufa? (4) Could a Chief of rebels while on way to Karbala repeatedly say that the enemy was after his blood alone and that his followers were free to go back as nobody was in any way bound or held accountable? When during the operation of rebellion the rebel Chief knows fully well that every sword and every person is of great importance to him? (5) Do leader of rebels ask their companions to go back?

Imam Husain (A.S) stopped at the turning point in history and announced in his thundering voice within the hearing of the coming generations "know by Allah I am not giving Bait to Yazid that which a contemptible man gives, nor am I conceding like a slave for Yazid who has given me two choice, either the drawn sword or obsequiousness is for us. Allah, His Rasool (S.A.W.A), our noble Ancestors and the believers, and all honorable families have rejected the alternative for us. The obedience of the ignoble can not influence the battle of honorable people.

"YA UMMATAS SOAY TABAN, LAKUM GHADAUTUM ILBAN, LAYQATLAY MAN KANA QALBAN, LILDEENAY BAL KANA LUBBAN, MIN SAFWATIL ASFIYAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE".

(Death, ruin, and Hell for those so called Muslims who gathered together for the murder of Husain, (such group of successors also continued the mission of their cursed predessors, who committed the great sin at Karbala after killing Husain). The place of Husain (A.S) was similar to the heart and soul in Deen (Religion), rather that Husain (A.S) was the chosen of the essence of the essence of the essence; How should I express my grief on you O’Husain, O’Syed of all the Shohoda).

This is not only a sentiment of Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) but it was based on his awareness and Divine Knowledge. He always discouraged Muslims to go towards an alien to Islam’s faith, civilization, culture and practices and beliefs.

HUSAIN ESTABLISHED DAWAT OF MAROOF & RESTRAINED FROM MUNKIR.

In order to know the purpose of Imam Husain (A.S), it is extremely necessary to keep in view all the historical circumstances. And to try to ascertain whether Imam Husain (A.S) had any other choice, other than the Shahadat of self, Ahlul Bait (A.S) and companions (R.A). While in Karbala after three days of hunger and thirst and to get Ahlul Bait (A.S) held captives after his Shahadat? Imam Husain (A.S) gave out his intention of Jihad when Zulm, cruelty and oppression exceeded their limits. Then the Rahmat, Justice and Mercy also reached their pinnacle. The son of Syeda Fatima (A.S) and the grandson of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) was a sum total of all those virtues which can be a pride for any human being. When the Muslim world was indulged to an intoxication of wealth, wine and women, when tyranny had bared itself fully naked, Imam Husain (A.S) taught the lesson of equality and liberty by his ever fresh and virtuous action. There are two cardinal principles of Islam which have been mentioned in Quraan, that, sovereignty really belongs to Allah Taala and that is the meaning of Divine Government and that there could be rebellion against Islam and a Ruler can also be a rebel against Islam. There is no concept of a Kingdom in Islam; because in early history of Islam this concept did not exist. Except Islam, in no religion there is a concept of a Divine Government. Essa (A.S) did not get an opportunity of showing the pattern of a Divine Government which had at last been chosen by Allah for Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A).

Imam Husain (A.S) started the movement of Amr Bil Maroof Wa Naha Anil Munkir. Those who say that the movement started by Imam Husain (A.S) in the name of Amr Bil Maroof Wa Naha Anil Munkir had quite different conditions. While Quraan says, ‘Do not put lives in Halakat or perdition by your own hands’, while Imam Husain’s action was open sucide and it was because that he did not know about the matter of statesmanship (Naozobillah) was such that he was heading towards death on his own. Then any one who thinks that to be killed in the way of Allah is perdition, then all the Jihad fought by Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) also come under this category; because in those battles when the Muslims were weak and limited, it was ordered that twenty Muslims should fight with two hundred Kuffars. Hence by this criterion it was nothing but Halakat, perdition and destruction. But no Muslim thinks like that. Imam Husain’s purpose was crystal clear and above all criticism that even enemies had to admit it submissively and they eulogized it heartily. But those blind with enmity and burning in the fire of envy made all possible and unholy efforts to distort these events. Some idiot enemies of Islam think that Imam Husain (A.S) had realized that he had to die irrespective of whether he took oath of allegiance or not and that Bani Uamayyah would not spare him at all. Hence he decided to lay down his life in the way of Allah so that he could also earn name and fame. This is not so. It is absolutely essential that one should carefully study and examine the History of Muslims of that time and the character and actions of the Muslim Ummah of those days and one should also deeply consider the sermons of Imam Husain (A.S). All the events of last thirty years were before Imam Husain (A.S). Hence he made the best of all decisions of saving the Ummah and of serving the cause of the Religion of Allah.

HUSAIN’S WILL TO MOHAMMAD BIN HANAFIYAH.

While leaving his grandfather’s Madina, he handed over his Wasiyat or will to his step brother, Mohammad Bin Hanafiyah (R.A), in which he stated, that, ‘I am not going for waging any war but going for reform of my grandfather Rasoolullah’s Ummah. The purpose of my life is to establish the Dawat of Amar Bil Maroof Wa Naha Anil Monkir in accordance with the actions and Precepts of my grandfather Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), my father Ali (A.S) and my brother Hasan (A.S).

Besides, the will which Imam Husain (A.S) entrusted to his step brother, Mohammad Bin Hanafiyah (R.A) who remained at Madina by the order of the Imam, was in fact a formal declaration of the Divine Revolution. In which he wrote, "I am not campaigning for unwillingness to accept the righteousness. Indeed, I have decided to save and protect my grandfather’s Ummah, I want to enjoin what is right and forbid dishonour, people who accept my call for being right, then I shall be steadfast till Allah passes His judgement. Indeed, Allah is the best Judge".

If any one considers deeply the above Wasiyat or will of Imam Husain (A.S), then he/she can easily get to the conclusion of the Divine Mission of the Imam. It was the mission of Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) too, to explain the teachings and mission of Imam Husain (A.S) to the Ummah. For this purpose he organised ten days of Waaz during the month of Moharram with grace and discipline, in which he himself delivered discourses wherever he was at that time, irrespective of the state of his health, for over fifty hours during Ashaara. The same practice is continued with such organised and improved way till today, by his illustrious successor and fifty-second Fatemi Dai al Mutlaq, Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin. In one of his Munajaat he says,

WA AZKURU MOULAYAL HUSAINA DAA LANA, BE SAJDATEHE INDASH SHAHADATAY SAEELA.

Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin (T.U.S) says, I always remember my lord Husain (A.S), who during the time of his Shahadat remembered us in his Doa.

After knowing the fact of Imam Husain’s Shahadat, will not any Muslim wish to send his/her Salaam on the Mazloom Imam, who was killed, but who preserved Islam forever? May Allah Taala bestow long life with health to Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin for communicating the divine message of Imam Husain (A.S) and cause of his great sacrifice at Karbala. May Allah Taala grant more courage and power to Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin (T.U.S) to fulfill the wish and will of his illustrious father, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A), which he expressed in the stanzas repeatedly in his Marsia, TULL AZZAMANE BUKAEE (I will weep upon Husain for very long period).

 PURPOSE OF IMAM’S DIVINE MISSION:

The realities become clearer and clearer. Yazid ordered his soldiers and agents to commit atrocities and disgrace them and plunder the city of Madina. He ordered them to destroy the Kabah and Qibla of Muslims during the Haj. Yazid’s pressure tightened on the leading Muslim figures of the Ummah, to make them submit to his tyrannical rule and pledge allegiance to him. This matter became very crucial during the Haj season. There was no alternative but to up-hold the principle of Justice on the plain of Karbala. Thus the matter proceeded, preparing the way for Imam Husain’s Revolution. At this point Imam Husain (A.S) felt the time was ripe for the explosion of the revolution and snatch the veil of deceit from the ugly faces of those traitors of Islam. Thus he removed the Haj Ahram which he wore on his Mustahab Haj and alongwith the Ahlul Bait (A.S) and selected some of his chosen supporters who were with him, young and old, men and women and children, he departed for the battle ground of Truth versus Falsehood, and he reached the "Karbala of Martyrdom" and the "Ashura of Sacrifice", Karbala means a tragic happening or incident, Karb means sad or tragic, and Bala means tribulation or tragic incidents. The land of Karbala was land of Karb & Bala for Imam Husain (A.S) and his Ahlul Bait (A.S) and Ashab (R.A).

Imam Husain (A.S), the Musafir of Madina accomplished and completed his last Safar of this world at Karabala.

 NIGHT OF PROMOTION AND REWARD:

Imam Husain (A.S) discovered the high status of his companions before the Shahadat, through the test. Just for Hujjat Imam Husain (A.S) asked all of his companions on the night of Aashoora, in the darkness of night, to return from Karbala. Because enemies are only thirsty of his blood. And if anyone wishes to leave me so upon him there is no binding and will not be questioned. No body should be able to say that they were killed only because they were trapped. Otherwise Imam Husain (A.S) was fully aware and well informed that the like of his faithful companions were not available either among the Muslims of early days or among those of later days. On listening Imam Husain’s permission to leave, Qamare Bani Hashim, Syedi Abbas (A.S) stood up restless and said with folded hands, May we not live after you! After this all the members of Ahlul Bait (A.S) and companions expressed their feelings one after the other. The high thinking of Muslim bin Ausaja (R.A) will impress the reader’s mind. He said, O Imam! If we leave you, we shall be answerable to Allah and His Rasool (S.A.W.A). By Allah if I know that I shall regain life after being murdered and would then be burned alive and this process is repeated seventy times, even then I would not leave you. Zohair bin Qain (R.A) said, By Allah, nothing else would give me greater pleasure except that if I am Slain a thousand times for your sake, be given life again and be killed again. It was the trial of faith of the companions by Imam Husain (A.S). Which showed that extra ordinary sincere and faithful Ashaab of strong conviction were with him who were trust worthy. It was very necessary for Husain (A.S) to give award to those who had become successful in the trial or test. Is there anyone who can shower benediction better than Imam Husain (A.S)? He showed everyone his place in the Jannat and thereby pleased everybody. Now the sip of Shahadat was even sweeter than honey. Sincere and devoted Ashaab of Imam Husain (A.S) sacrificed their lives valiantly, defended Imam Husain (A.S), the Kalimah of Islam, and the Dawat of Tawheed. They were really defenders of Islam and Imam, who were killed brutally. Over which Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) sheds tears. He believes that mourning and wailing on Husain (A.S), his Ahlul Bait (A.S) and his companions (R.A) should lead to Najaat. He express his feelings about Ashaab al Husain (A.S) in these words.

YALAHFATAHO LESAHBE, LAHOO KUMATIN GHULBE, ASAADE YAUMIL HARBE, QAD SUREOO FITTURBE, MUFEENA HAQQAL WAFAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE.

(Our unlimited sorrow and grief upon the companions of Imam Husain (A.S), who were the bravest warriors and crusaders, who were the lions of the battle day, who slept and rested on the land of Karbala after Shahadat, who fulfilled the responsibility of faithfulness at the peak of it. Our grief upon Husain. O the leader of the Shohada!).

It is noteworthy that on the night of 10th of Moharram, these revolutionaries spent their time on the glorification of Allah, they were very happy and joyful about having being granted the honour of Shahadat by Allah and pleased about the elevated status which they had been promised in this world and the next. There was a fight at Karbala with Yazid’s army. Before Jihad, Husain (A.S) said to the Evil Forces.

"AZHAL HUSAINU YUNADI, BAEENA JUMOIL AADI, INNI IBNU TAHA WA SAADEE, MUNZO SALASIN SADEE, ATLOBU SHURBATA MAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE."

(On the day of Ashaura, before the Shahadat, Husain (A.S) performed the duty of Hujjat (arguments) with enemies and asked. Dont you know I am the son of that Nabi (Mohammad) whom Quraan has addressed as Tahaa and Suaad? I am thirsty since last three days. I only ask of you just one sip of water. O’ Husain our unlimited grief upon you, O’ the leader of the Shohada).

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) so meaningfully expressed the last sermon of Imam Husain (A.S) briefly in this above stanza. Imam Husain (A.S) spoke out aloud addressing the Yazidian forces in an apostolic tone. "O’people! do you recognise me? By Allah tell me. The reply from the enemies was" By Allah, yes, we do recognise you. You are son of Rasoolullah. Husain (A.S) again asked. Do you not know that my father is Ali al Murtaza son of Abu Talib, and my mother is Fatema Zahra, the beloved daughter of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.). My grandmother is Khadija, who was the first to embrace Islam. The reply was, Yes. It is so. Husain (A.S) again asked. By Allah, tell me, is not Hamza, Syedus Shohadaa, one of my uncles? The reply was yes. Husain (A.S) asked, O’ people! Do you recognise this Amama (turban) on my head, is it not the turban of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) and this sword in my hand, that of Zulfiqar? The reply was, Yes we do recognise. Husain (A.S) asked, Do you know that my father Ali (A.S) was the first among men to join Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.) in Islam, and he was the most learned, and the most forbearing of all men and was the Moula (Master, Lord) of all men and women by a Divine Decree? The reply was, Yes we know, that every thing you say is truth. Then Husain (A.S) asked loudly, then say why do you make lawful the sheding of my blood? The reply from the brutal forces was. Yes we shall kill you in the thirst.

Yazid’s army showed their beastly wickedness and malice in as much as they banned water for three days before the Shahadat to Imam Husain (A.S) and his companions (R.A). They did not allow them to offer their Salaat and killed even an infant son of Imam Husain (A.S). Just imagine the tragic episode when Imam Husain (A.S) brought on the battlefield, infant Ali Asghar (A.S) on his hands, for some water, showed the parched lips of the innocent, who was none other, but the Mushtaree of Imamat in the hands of Aftabe Imamat. Normally tears of an infant child, would invoke emotions even in the hearts of the foe. But, in Karbala, tears of the innocent Ali Asghar (A.S) did not create even an iota of human feelings among the foe. Husain (A.S), for the sake of Hujjat appealed for water for the innocent child, but the thick arrow of Hurmala created a spray of blood from the neck of Ali Asghar (A.S). Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) express his feelings on the situation in these words,

LAM YASMAU MINHU QAWLA, WAIZ SHAQU MA SAQAWLA, BAL QATALU MINHU MAWLA, AAMMAL BARAYA TAWLAN, ALA ASHADDE ZAMAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAE.

(Enemies did not listen to his call, Due to the cruelty and enemity none of them presented water, But they killed him in the extreme of the thirst. Whose Ahsaan (obligations) covered the whole Universe. My unlimited sorrow and grief upon you O Husain! O leader of the Shohadaa!)

ALA BANIL WAHI DARAT, RAHAL BALAYA WAJARAT, AEDIZ ZAMANE FAGHARAT, NUJUMUHUM WATAWARAT, FI YAUMAY ASHOORAE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE.

Husain (A.S), whom Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) loved as his own son, naturally was entitled to be addressed as a son of Wahi. That Husain (A.S) not only suffered with Bala but countless Afaat which gathered together around the Imam. He and his Ahlul Bait (A.S) alongwith the companions (R.A) faced such trials & tribulations which none can imagine. All the stars of the galaxy of Nubowat set in the Maghrib of Karbala on the day of Aashuraa. After the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S) they trampled with horses feet over the Pious & holy body of the Imam, cut his head as well as that of his companions and held their heads on lances. Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) described this tragic event in his another two verses Marisa.

"AYA BAYABI RASAN MULLAN ALAL QANA, WA SHABHAN ZAKIYAN FIRRIMALAY MUJADDALA":

(My father be sacrificed on Husain, Ah…the sacred head of Husain on a lance and pious body on the sand).

 A QUESTION WITH MUMIN.

In this couplet, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) asked a serious question from the Ummah, He asked.

HAL MOMINUN YATASALLA, AHAL KAHAZI JULLA, RAAS UL HUSAINE MOALLA, ALAS SINANE TAJALLA, LALAHO KAZUKAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAE.

(Can a Momin afford to take rest? Is there any bigger tragedy then this Musibat? Enemies raised the head of Imam Husain (A.S) on the top of the lance. It was that head which shined like sun and sun also shined with its Noor. O Husain! Our unlimited grief upon you, O leader of the Shohadaa!). They burned their tents, and slaved their Ahlul Bait (A.S) and snatched their Hijab (head cover). Ah! how should I define that Hadisa? Syeda Zainab (A.S) was seeing that their tents were being looted and burnt, Ridaa were forcibly snatched from the ladies of Ahlul Bait of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A). Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) describes this tragic episode in these words.

AJLIL BEHA MIN RAZIATI, AZIM BEHA MIN BALIYATI, BANATU KHAIRIL BARIYATE, SABUL JUMUESH SHAQIYATI, YUSAQNA SAWQAL IMAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE.

(Ah! it was the greatest Musibat, tragedy or Bala, daughters of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) become prisoners, they were driven by enemies like the slave girls, O Husain! our sorrow and grief upon you, O leader of the Shohadaa!). In the desert, under the heat of the burning sun, they tied the children and Imam Ali Zainul Abedin (A.S) with ropes although the Imam was seriously sick. If any one desires to understand the purpose of Imam Husain’s mission & his Shahadat then he/she should study the memorable sermons of Imam Husain (A.S) which he delivered right before the eyes of the Army of Yazid. And there is no ‘History of Islam’ which does not contain details of these sermons. Historian Tibri has mentioned in his ‘History of Islam’ sermon of Imam on page 304 of vol. 4. In this sermon Imam Husain (A.S) said at one place that "know that these people (Yazid and his courtiers or companions) are following Shaitan and are not prepared to forsake it. They have turned their faces against Allah’s obedience. They are openly ruining Islam. They are exceeding the bounds of Allah. They are making Haraam (unlawful and forbidden) as Halal (lawful) and Halal and Jaiz as Haraam. Among all the Muslims I am the best person for doing this that I should gird up my loin for preventing these vices and start Jehad". Who could better understand Hadith of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) then Imam Husain (A.S)? ‘If any one sees that a tyrant Ruler is oppressing the people, it is incumbent on him that he should wage war against such tyranny, at least by his words and actions; otherwise Allah descends Azab (punishment) on those who witness this cruelty without waging war against it’. It is a great generosity of Imam Husain (A.S) that he saved the entire Ummah from Allah’s Azab and punishment by himself accepting the Shahadat. Husain’s Shahadat has no parallel in the history of Mankind. The representative demons of the Shaitan, Yazid attempted to change the Shariat, but Imam Husain (A.S) totally wrecked the plan of the arch enemy of Islam, and at every step declared Baraat and culminated his divine mission of protecting the faith of his grandfather Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), by offering Shahadate Uzma.

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) expressed his sentiments in these words.

 VICTORY OF BLOOD OVER SWORD.

"AKANA IMAMUN KAL HUSAINIBNAY FATEMIN, BAYMOHAJATEHY FILLAHAY ASBAHA ABZALA?"

(Is there anyone like the son of Fatima, Husain? Who likewise ‘spent and scarified’ his life in the way of Allah, for the cause of Allah?).

"SHAHIDTU BAYAN LAULA SHAHADATAHU LAMA, WAJADNA ALAL ARDAENAY MARAN MOHALILA."

(I submit this testimony that if Husain (A.S) would not have sacrificed his life, then on this Earth no one would have offered Tawheed of Allah).

Musafir of Madina, Imam Husain (A.S) while on his way from Madina to Makkah and thereafter to the place of his sacrifice, Karbala, clarified his purpose at all places and gave out the objective of his Divine Mission because he had a firm conviction that he was on the Siraate Mustaqeem and that Truth was on his side. Hence he continued his Jihad against falsehood till his Shahadat. The 10th day of Moharram culminating in the Shahadat of seventy two persons and the great hardships borne by women and children of the House of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) made this tragedy of Karbala immortal. Who can forget the history making sermons of Syeda Zainab (A.S) and Imam Ali Zainul Abedin (A.S) whose echo made the palace of Yazid tremble? Most of the people who are unaware of the real purpose and spirit of these sermons think that they are the feelings of a grief stricken family. No, no, they are the explanations to the Divine movement of Imam Husain (A.S) and are a message of the cause of Shahadat. The obvious conquest of Yazid and the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S) clarifies all the more the purpose of Imam Husain’s Shahadat; because the criterion of victory is not material victory but is the triumph of principles. The pious and revolutionary movement of Imam Husain (A.S) has caused a deep impact on real Islam. The consciousness created by Imam Husain (A.S) by awakening the sleeping conscience of the people and by enlivening the spirit of Jihad, made thinking and sense active. And this is a gift of the Tragedy of Karbala. Every epoch and nation have been influenced by the movement of Imam Husain (A.S). Every movement for a Renaissance of Muslims has been guided by this movement. To raise the slogan of Truth for waging Jehad against all tyrants, usurpers, Khawarij and Nawasib at every place, these very principles would have to be kept in view which were practiced by Imam Husain (A.S) and the same procedure and programme of action would have to be formulated against all the Shaitanic forces of the time. Only then we shall win internal, external, spiritual and eternal victory.

 DIVINE REVOLUTION OF IMAM HUSAIN.

What had Imam Husain’s revolution meant to history? Some people, who are not familiar with its motives, innocently inquire about its result. Others have even questioned its wisdom, that the striking at a mighty force like Ummayads’ was fatal. Although motives of the revolution were already discussed, but a brief review of the change in the Muslim world after Imam Husain’s revolution is appropriate at this stage. Murdering Imam Husain (A.S) the grandson of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) was a great shock to the whole Muslim world. This is not to mention the way in which he was murdered, or the treatment given to his family who had great respect for all Muslims. Consequently these Muslims disassociated themselves from the Ummayad’s deeds and policies. Verily who wants to share the curse, of those who murdered the Ahlul Bait (A.S) of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A)? Thus this revolution had done the task of unveiling the Ummayad’s anti Islam character to the general public and left no doubt in any person’s heart about what the Ummayads’ were propagating.

 CARVAN OF AHLUL BAIT.

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) re-created the atmosphere of the tragedy that took place forteen hundred years ago in these seven lines stenza of his very famous Marsia.

"AHHIN GHARIBO MOHAMMAD, FI KARBALA MUSTASHAHAD, HAREMOHO BADO TUZHAD, TUSAQU FI KULLAY FADFAD, FI ZUMARIL AADAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE."

(Ah O’ lonely Son of Mohammad! you had accepted Shahadat at Karbala, After you, the nobel ladies of Rasoolullah’s family were imprisoned and faced great torture and tyrany. O! Husain our grief upon you. O leader of the Shohadaa).

This Husaini Caravan was dragged from one city to another. Every where the family of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) was humiliated and disgraced by Ummayads and their supporters.

 BARAAT, OPEN ORDER OF SHARIAT.

"WALAAN YAZIDAL LAEENA, WA NASERAN WA MOENA, LAHO MINAL ZALEMENA, ALA BANI YASINA, ASSADATIN NUJOBAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE."

(O’Allah Taala! send your Laanat (curse) on Yazid, send your Laanat on all his companions and helpers (whose swords, help, hearts, souls, minds, ideas, and sincerity were, are, with Yazid. Such group of Yazid’s beloved still exist even today). These type of Zalim people are addressed in Quraan as Tyrants. Zalim people mercilessly killed Bani Yasin, Family of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), who were Najeeb Sadaat, Nobel leaders of Bani Hashim, O’Allah send your Laanat on all these Zalemeen our sorrow & grief upon Husain, O leader of the Shohadaa).

In this stanza Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) followed the order of Quraan and Sunnat of Rasoolullah and sent Laanat on Zalemeen and declared open Baraat with them, which is an obligatory duty of every Muslim.

In the burning desert of Karbala, where Imam Husain (A.S) sacrificed his family and friends, who were butchered and slaughtered mercilessly, but his mission survived, and the revolution of his grandfather Mohammad (S.A.W.A) was rekindled to glow till eternity. Imam Husain (A.S) and his followers, through their deeds, showed, as how to live, if we can, and how to die, if we can not remain alive. The message of their Shahadat addressed all ages and all generations. One of the significant lessons we must remember from Karbala is the role played by Syeda Zainab (A.S). Zainab means to endure and Syeda Zainab (A.S) endured countless hardships after her brother’s Shahadat and the mission of her brother rested upon her shoulders. She stood firm and strong, offering her life for the cause of Islam. Zainab (A.S) became the voice of Husain (A.S). She exposed the traitors and declared open Baraat with them, at every stage, who were exploiting in the name of Islam, for their own interests and power.

TEACHINGS OF IMAM HUSAIN THROUGH HIS SHAHADAT.

Imam Husain’s Shahadat set a bold and illustrious example as to the duty of a Muslim in such dire conditions. It had deeply penetrated the peoples heart, and produced great pain and anguish for not performing their religious duty. This feeling which disturbed the people endlessly, transformed into sense of guilt and repentance, and thence into an open revolt against the Ummayad’s regime. Thus the revolution provided the stimulation to move their spirits and set it in a dynamic movement. Indeed, the movement of Islam was put to new gear throughout the rest of the History of Islam. A series of revolutions manifesting Imam Husain’s revolutionary spirit and reform emerged at successive intervals. However, there was a chain of revolutions in all parts of the Muslim world, which eventually had done away with the Ummayad’s regime. Imam Husain’s (A.S) revolution was the principal slogan of the revolutionaries against the Ummayad’s. The Abbaside came, disguised as the so-called protectors of Ahlul Bait of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A.). They realized that the revolution’s results had taken roots, and before they could do anything, the main personalities of Ahlul Bait (A.S) had been treacherously eliminated by murder, poison, and imprisonment. The attempts to restore the religious conduct were never stopped throughout the History of Islam. Bitter experience and intermittent material failures are natural results of struggles. Most important is the triumph of the spirit of Islam against intimidations and attempts to obscure its shining face of glory. A ceaseless revolution in the Muslim lives is a reality, which enemies failed to extinguish. The secret key of this blessed divine revolution lies in the firm faith in Allah. The unshakeable conviction which puts material supremacy and gain, in an inferior position to Allah’s satisfaction. These golden ideals were demonstrated by Imam Husain (A.S) when the Muslim were in need of such an example.

"HAL TARA MISLA HUSAININ KANA FI, KARBALA ASBATA JASHAN MIN RUAIN"

(Did you see anyone like Husain (A.S) who stood up at Karbala on the peak of courage, strong belief and faith like the famous mountain of Arabiyah, Ruain? Naturally it is not possible, to push or move, for any mountain, similarly it was not possible for Husain (A.S) to move from his divine mission while it is easy to push any other person or human being.

"BEABI ANTA WA UMMI YA HUSAIN, WABAY AHLI WABAY WOLDY WABAY AIN."

(O’ Husain! my father and mother be sacrificed on you, my family and I be sacrificed on you). Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) expresses his extreme love for Imam Husain (A.S), his love is apparent from his above couplet in which he vehemently wishes to offer his and his parents life as a sacrifice upon Imam Husain (A.S).

 PHILOSOPHY OF AZA AND BUKAA.

In the preliminary stanza of his Marsia, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) has taught the lesson of the Philosophy of Aza and also practiced on it till his last breath. He says.

"YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE, KHAMESA AHLIL KISAEE, AALA AZIME BALAEE, NALAKA FI KARBALAEE, TOOLAZ ZAMANE BOOKAEE, WALAH FATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE."

(O Syede Shohada! O the fifth of the Panjatan (Mohammad, Ali, Fatema, Hasan, Husain. I shall grieve and my Bukaa will go on you, for years for what you had to face in Karbala, the great hardship, Bala and distress. There is tremendous grief for you, O Mazloom Husain, O Syede Shohada).

There is a philosophy of Aza, Bukaa and lamentation in regard to Imam Husain (A.S) which has a purpose and real life in it. Whatever work is done in this world, there is a purpose and philosophy behind it, which good persons do. Discussion on Imam Husain (A.S) is a life-giving lesson not only for the Muslims but for the entire Humanity which is protesting against Zulm, oppression and heresy. This lesson teaches to the world that one should always take side with Haq, Truth and Justice and uphold it in every circumstances. The lofty and pious continuity of Imam Husain’s Zikr, guides all to a virtuous life and a passion for gentleness. This Zikr and Gham is a treasured heritage for the life of entire humanity. It is a powerful kick and strong punch for Yazidiat and last nail for the coffin of Kharijiat. History is witness that the forces of Nawasib acted with oppression and barbarity of the extreme class. The tyrant cruel forces of Bani Umayyah and Bani Abbas chopped off hands and feet. Thousands of persons were decapacitated, beheaded, were made to die alive in walls which were built all around them. The walls were smeared with blood. Followers of the Ahlul Bait (A.S) were massacred by cutting of their hands and feet. Tongues were pulled out of the throats. All this was done simply to stop Zikre Imam Husain (A.S). But Zikre Husain (A.S) is still continuing and will continue till the Qiyamat. Because it does not end with weeping and lamentation; but it invites the world to ponder on the teachings of Husain (A.S). Those teachings are real Constitution for life. There is benefit and Nafaa in this Divine Zikr only when we put the Caravan of our characters and actions on the way of Imam Husain (A.S). When Zikre Husain would be our aim, we shall all the more try to listen to and remember the circumstances and teachings of Imam Husain (A.S) and his companions (R.A), which would surely influence our actions for the better. The philosophy of Zikre Husain is that we should follow the purpose of Imam Husain (A.S). We stand in dire need of assessing our actions and assertions so that we may lead our lives with Marefate Husainiyah. It is very necessary to correct an erroneous and misleading concept. In Islam, there is no concept or scope for Baptism, like in Christianity, through which people’s sins and vicious acts are forgiven. In Islam, the way of Shafaat Najaat is quite clear. If anyone goes on committing sin all the year round and thinks that by Zikre Husain all sins would be forgiven, such a belief is not at all acceptable. It is true that Imam Husain (A.S) is such an Imam on account of whose Shafaat, Allah Taala may forgive the sins of sinners. But this Shafaat is not for those who persist in committing sins and instead of Nadim Mostaghfir, they, like the son of Noah (A.S), who became Mosir Mustakbir or proud sinner. They continue to commit sins and think that those whom Allah has given the Right of Shafaat would get them exonerated of their sins.

Azae Husain is not like bemoaning and lamentation at a dead body. But this weeping and lamentation is because of that lack of feelings and short-sightedness of the so called Muslims which goaded them to murder of Imam Husain (A.S). This Zikr is death for Yazidiat. The Zikr of inhuman oppression on Imam Husain (A.S), Ahlul Bait (A.S) and his faithful companions (R.A) does not weaken the body and soul. But it all the more ignites the flame of one’s belief, faith and conviction. Think, how can one ignore to show sympathy and to condole with him who for the sake of the Preservation of Kalema Shahadat, ‘LA ILAHAA ILLALLA MOHAMMADUN RASOOLULLAH’, and Dawatul Haq sacrificed his family, companions and in the last his own life. According to Ikhwanus Safaa the day of Aashoora is Eide Huzn. Assuredly those cold blooded, Shaqi, stone hearted persons are really very unfortunate and sick minded, who even on the Day of Aashura which is Eide Huzn do not allow their hearts to be influenced by the great tragic events of Karbala. Each tear Shed by a Mumin on the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S) is a kin to an ocean of Rahmat, which would extinguish the fire of Hell on the laminators of Husain (A.S). Each tear thus a most powerful punch on the face of Shaitaan. The Bukaa and the expression of Ya Husain increase the intensity of pain for the enemies of Husain (A.S), Ahlul Bait (A.S) and his Ansaar (R.A). We got true concept of Aza and Bukaa from the Marsia of Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A). He says,

ABDUKA ZA YABKIKA, ABDUKA ZA YARSIKA, ABDUKA ZA YAFDIKA, QAD QALA ZASHSHARE FIKA, ADAA HAQQU FIDAEE, WALAH FATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAE.

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) addresses Imam Husain (A.S) and submits, (your slave weeps for you and writes your Marsia, your slave consecrates on you and presents these couplets to pay my homage, O’ Husain our sorrow & grief for you, O leader of the martyrs).

 ARCH GUARDIAN OF DIVINE REVOLUTION.

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) describes the condition of Syeda Zainab (A.S) in few words.

YA LAHFATAHO LE ZAINAB, TAKBI AKHAHA WA TANDOB, MIN DAMEHISSHARA TAKHZIB, WADDAMO KALGAISY YASKAB, WA HEYA BIGHERE RIDAEE, WA LAH FATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE.

(O Zainab! I am grieved on your distress. You are lamenting for your brother Imam Husain (A.S). You have smeared your hair with blood by embracing the body of your brother. Your eyes are shedding tears and you are without Hijab (Rida). O Syedash Shohada Husain! Our grief for you is limitless).

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) has drawn out an extremely painful picture of this scene, in fewest possible words. One can only imagine what would have been the condition of Syeda Zainab (A.S), when she saw the Khanjar tore that neck where Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) used to put his lips, when she saw the slain body of her brother, without heads with all the other Shohadaa. The pen trembles to write down the extreme grief and superb patience of Syeda Zainab (A.S). I believe and feel that the real test of Syeda Zainab (A.S) began after the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S). Whilst condoling and expressing his sincere feelings and genuine faith on this Azim Hadesa or great tragedy, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) has given vent to his deep & devoted feelings in the above stanza. Only in three words he easily described and expressed how tears flowed down from the eyes of Syeda Zainab (A.S), just like rain from clouds. Syeda Zainab (A.S) got titles of (1) ‘Defender of Karbala’ (2) ‘Spokeswoman of the philosophy of Shahadat’, and (3) ‘Arch Guardian of the Divine Revolution’. Bani Umayyah had tried many times to murder the entire family of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), so that people should forget Shariat and Islam should come to nought. But the Shahadat of Imam Husain (A.S) exposed the cursed faces of all hidden enemies of Islam, Who had been disguised in the garb of Islam, which was not openly exposed before the common people, during the period of Amir al Momeneen, Ali (A.S) and Imam Hasan (A.S).

SYEDNA JABIR’S SALAAM AND ZIARAT OF IMAM.

There is no need of introduction of Syedna Jabir (R.A). He was the only Sahabi who lived for a very long period and expired during the period of Imam Baqir (A.S).

YA BEABI SHABHA NOORI, QAD KANA LOOBAD DOHORI, WA BAITA RABIZ ZAHORI, KHOYOLO QUMIN BOORI, WA TENAHO BETEDAEE, WA LAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE

(My parents and I would like to sacrifice ourselves on that personality who was an embodiment of Noor and piety. Who was Loobe Lubab (sum total of the entire universe). From whom Allah’s Noor was obvious. Allah’s curse be on those people who mercilessly trampled Imam Husain’s Shabho Kafoore Noorani (Pious Body) with the dirty hoofs of horses. O Husain! Our unlimited grief is for you. O! the leader of the Shohada).

Calling Imam Husain (A.S) as Loobad Dohor in the second verse of this stanza, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) has reminded the famous Salaam by Syedna Jabir bin Abdullah al Ansari (R.A), who was a great and prominent companion of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A). In his Salaam, Syedna Jabir (R.A) had apprised the Ummah about the great distinguished, sublime, exalted & divine status of Imam Husain (A.S). He explained the Azim Maqaam of Imam Husain (A.S) through his Salaam, that he is the real sole heir of all the prophets and Imams. Allama Shaikh Tusi has written in his famous book Misbahut Tahjjud that on the 20th of Safar, Sixty One, Hijrah the great Sahabi of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), Syedna Jabir bin Abdullah al Ansari (R.A) came from Madina to Karbala only for the Ziarat of Imam Husain (A.S). He took bath and wore clean clothes and after applying Atar (Perfume) on clothes walked on naked foot towards Imam Husain’s Qabar Mubarak and weepingly read this Salaam:

Assalamo Alekum Ya Aalillahey Wa Sifwataho, Wa Kherataho Min Khalqay, Assalamo Alekum Ya Sadato, Wa Loyousa Ghabatin, Wa Sofonan Najate, Assalamo Alekum Ya Aba Abdillahe Wa Rahmatollah Wa Barakatoho, Assalamo Aleka Ya Warisa Ilmal Anbiae, Assalamo Aleka Ya Warisa Adama Safwatillahe, Wa Nohin Najiyellah, Wa Ibrahima Khalilillah, Wa Mosa Kalimillahe, Wa Essa Rohillahe, Wa Mohammadin Rasoolullah, Assalamo Aleka Yabna Khadijatul Kubra, Assalamo Alekum Yabn Ali’nil Murtaza, Assalamo Alekum Yabn Fatimataz Zehra, Assalamo Alekum Ya Shaheedo Ibn Al Shahede.

Due to too much grief on Imam Husain (A.S), position of Syedna Jabir (R.A) became serious, he fell down on account of extreme grief, Gham, weeping and extreme sorrow. One regaining consciousness he weepingly and loudly read again the above Salaam. In this Salaam he exhaustively presented to the Muslim

and Azim Maqam of Imam Husain (A.S) by his Salaam. He confirmed that Imam Husain (A.S) was the sole heir of all Prophets. He said, "O heir of Adam Safiullah (A.S), Nooh Najiullah (A.S), Ibrahim Khalilullah (A.S), Moosa Kalimullah (A.S), Essa Rohullah (A.S), Mohammad Rasoolullah (A.S), the grandson of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), O son of Khadijatul Kubra (A.S.), O son of Ali and Fatema (A.S). I give this Shahadat that you performed the duty of Amar Bil Maroof Wa Naha Anil Monkir. You always offered Salaat and paid Zakaat. I believe and give Shahadat that you are listening to my Salaam and are also replying to it. I am your slave Jabir bin Abdullah al Ansari. I have come before your Qabar Mubarak with the hope of Shafaat. O my lord! Husain (A.S) recommend me for Shafaat to your grand father Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) and your father Amir ul Momeneen, Syedul Wasiyeen Ali (A.S) and your mother Fatima (A.S).

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) has apprised us of the great significance of this Salaam in only two words, Loobad Dohore and has highlighted the Azim and divine concept of Imam. Each and every word of this Marsia is a legend of the eventful happenings and Key to volumes of knowledge and an opportunity to the mystics.

FROM BADAR TO KARBALA, THE SAME STORY.

Muslim al Jasas has related that alongwith Ahlul Bait (A.S) the heads of Imam Husain (A.S) and other Shohada of Karbala while hung on Sinaan (lances) first reached Kufa and then Syria. In the Court of Yazid, the Taghut of his time, in the company of seven hundred courtiers and ambassadors of other countries, Yazid was sitting in great splendour and was making queer gestures, puffed up by his apparently so called victory. The atmosphere of the Court was like of Qaisar and Kisra. The head of Imam Husain (A.S) was brought before him in a silver tray and was placed before the throne of Yazid Maloon. Taghut of Syria Yazid, while striking the teeth and face of Imam Husain (A.S) with a stick jestingly insulted him. He hit those teeth and face on which Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) always kissed. If saliva came out of Husain’s mouth, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) sucked it. After reading or listening to this mournful tale who would not become restless? Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) stricken with grief says.

YA LAHFATA FIT TASTI; RASO IMAMIL WAQTI, WAZZIDO FOQAT TAKHTI, YONKOTO HOZAN BENAKTI, SAGHRAN LAHO ZA BAHAI, WA LAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAI.

(Ah! Alas! the head of the Imam of the time and the grandson of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) was lying on a tray, which had been placed below the throne, while the biggest enemy of Islam was sitting on the throne. Yazid (Allah’s curse on him) was hitting the beautiful teeth of Husain with a stick and was insulting Husain. Ah! my sorrow and grief for Husain, the Syed of all the Shohada).

Hisham bin Mohammad has related that when the head of the Mazloom Imam Husain (A.S) was brought before Yazid in his court, the Ambassador of Rome was also sitting there alongwith courtiers and other Ambassadors. The Ambassador of Rome inquired from Yazid as to whose head it was? Yazid replied that it was the head of Husain. The Roman Ambassador again asked who was Husain? Yazid replied that Husain was the son of Fatima. The Roman Ambassador again asked who was Fatima? Yazid replied that she was the daughter of Mohammad. The Roman Ambassador then asked who was Mohammad? Was he your Prophet? Yazid replied in the affirmative. Then Roman Ambassador asked who was Husain’s father? Yazid replied that Husain’s father was Ali Bin Abi Talib. That Christian Roman Ambassador at once said, "O Yazid! Curse, death and ruin for you. We have preserved the only hoof of Essa’s donkey, on which it is said that he rode some time, although it is not sure and confirmed that it was his donkey yet the Christians come to see and pay great respect as Ziarat to that hoof of the donkey. We paid respect to the hoof of Christ’s donkey so much, while you have done this to the grandson of Mohammad. O Yazid! I give this Shahadat (witness) that you are on the wrong path". After this the Roman Ambassador went away and never returned again.

Famous Sufi, Hasan al Basri relates that when Abu Bariza Aslami saw that Yazid was striking the head of Imam Husain (A.S) with a stick, he said to Yazid, ‘Keep your stick off Husain’s head. I have seen for years that Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) used to kiss on the face and teeth of Husain, (Hayaat al Imam al Husain, Al Farshi, pg 500, Qum, Iran). Remember that on the day of Judgement, Ubaidullah Bin Ziad (Allah’s Laanat on him) would be

your helper. Whereas the helper of Imam Husain (A.S) will be Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A)’.

While striking the head of Imam Husain (A.S) with his stick Yazid Laeen maliciously recited couplet in a fit of fury and openly declared and exhibited his and his family’s hatred and enemity towards Islam and Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A). These couplets were mentioned by famous Scholars of Ahle Sunnat, Allama Ibn Hajar Makki in his famous book Sawaequl Moharraqa and Molvi Mobin Farangi Mehli mentioned it in his book Wasilatun Najaat and can be seen in many other books. Maloon Yazid said openly,

  1. Had the slain of the battle of Badr (The enemies of Islam killed by Ali and Hamza) been alive today, they would have witnessed as to how the helpless followers of Mohammad and their associates are caught up and barricaded within lances and are in distress.
  2. All of them (Yazid’s nearest and dearest relatives) would have been glad to see this scene and out of glee would have raised the slogan (similar slogan which had been raised out of joy in the court of Syria’s Ruler on the Shahadat of Ali and Imam Hasan) and they would have said, O Yazid! your muscles may remain intact and powerful and may never be powerless.
  3. We have slain the Chief of Bani Hashim and taken revenge of the defeat of the battle of Badr.
  4. If I did not take revenge from the progeny of Mohammad, I would not have been counted from the Ataba’s race.
  5. One Hashmi had defrauded the people and staged a drama (By Hashami meant Rasoolullah) to grab a kingdom. Otherwise there was no Nabi and nor a Wahi (Revelation). In this last couplet, Yazid Maloon exceeded all limits of heresy (Irtidad Anil Islam). He thereby openly declared himself as a Mortad. Tyrant King of Syria, in whose body, souls of all those Shayateen were present, who were the first to come out for fight with Mohammad Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), declared his enemity, hatred and wickedness with Islam. Yazid Maloon also confirmed and declared by his actions that in reality from Badr to Karbala the story is the same.

BRIEF HISTORY OF RAAS UL IMAM AL HUSAIN (A.S).

Later on Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) was buried for a long time in a place called Babul Faradees, adjacent to Jame Damishq by the order of Suleman b. Abdul Malik Ummavi. From there it was brought to Asqalaan (Israel), where it remained concealed for a long time. While famous Fatemi Dai and commander, Syenda Badrul Jamali conquered Falasteen, during the period of Fatemi Imam Mustansir (A.S), he found out the place of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) with the help of Imam’s blessings. It was 448 A.H. when this historical event took place. Under the instructions of Imam Mustansir (A.S) he constructed a Masjid and prepared a wooden Minbar (Pulpit) and placed it in the Masjid where Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) was buried. This Minbar bears the secret historical facts in Arabi Fatemi Kufi script about the Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S), which provides great evidence of its authenticity. During the period of Salahuddin Ayyubi, by his order, the Minbar was transferred from Asqalaan to the Masjid of Khalilul Rahman (Israel). Fifty first Fatemi Dai al Mutlaq, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) got this honour to visit Khalilul Rahman and discovered the Fatemi Minbar, one thousand years after the Satar of Fatemi Imams. Allama Muqrezi, the famous historian briefly narrates regarding the transfer of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.). In Shaban, 491 A.H. =1098 A.D, Fatemi Dai and minister, Shahansha Afzal b. Syedna Badrul Jamali, who was also commander of the Fatemi Forces, under the instructions of Imam Mustaali (A.S), marched towards Baitul Maqdis. After capturing Falasteen, Shahansha Afzal proceeded to Asqalaan and finally entered the city. Here in Asqalaan, Dai Afzal completed the Shrine, started by his father Syedna Badrul Jamali. Dai Afzal took out the Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) and placed it in a chest and the said chest was buried with great honour in that new Shrine. In this way the Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) remained buried in the same Shrine.

During the last phase of the Fatemi Empire, the Waali of Asqalaan, al Amir Saiful Mamlekat, Tameem alongwith the Mujawir (custodian) of the Shrine, Qazi Mohammad b. Miskeen, took out the buried chest of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) from the Shrine and with due respect and great honour carried the sacred head from Asqalaan to Qahera, Egypt. Historians record the reason of transfer of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) was due to the Crusade’s war which was continuing at that time. Due to the fear of disrespect and the atrocities of the traitors and hidden enemies, under the instruction of the ruler of Egypt, the Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) was secretly transferred to Qahera. The caravan alongwith the sacred head of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S.) reached at Qasre Mualla, Qahera. Historians, (1) Muqrezi in Khitat, vol. One, pg. 427, Qahera, (2) Qalaqshandi, in Subhul Aasha, vol. Three, pg. 351, Qahera, (3) Ibn Maiseer in Akhbaar Misar, pg. 38, Qahera, mentioned that when Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) was taken out of the chest, drops of the fresh blood were visible on the Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) and fragrance of Mushk widely spread all over. In short Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) was taken from Qasre Mualla through it’s tunnel to Qasre Zamarrud and reburied the sacred head of Moula Husain (A.S) at it’s present place. The present Mashad of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) is at the same place which was known during the period of Fatemi Imams (in their Mahal) as a Qubbattul Zafraan.

During the golden era of Fatemi Imams on every Aashoora, the people of Egypt from far and near used to gather and offer sacrifices of camels, cows, goats in the name of Allah and used to recite Marsia and pronounced Laanat loudly on Yazid, Shimar, Ibn Ziaad and other murderers of Imam Husain (A.S), the Ahlul Bait (A.S) and Ansaar (R.A). During the tenure of Salahuddin Ayyubi all Marasime Azaa or mourning ceremonies for Imam Husain (A.S) were declared officially banned. Historian Abdul Zahir wrote that when Salahuddin came to power he siezed all the palaces of the Fatemi Imams and looted their properties. He learnt through one of his spies that a nobelman is highly revered by the people of Qahera and he knows the clue of the treasures of the Fatemi Imams. Salahuddin issued an order to arrest that person and present him before his court. When that nobelman appeared before the ruler, Salahuddin inquired of him the whereabouts of the Fatemi treasures. He flatly denied and replied that he does not know anything about the treasures. Salahuddin got furious on him and ordered his intelligence service to ask him through third degree. Yet that nobelman bore all the torture and repeated the same words. Consequently, Salahuddin ordered to put Khunfuss (centipede) on the head of the gentleman who was Mujawir of Rasul Imam al Husain (A.S). It is said, that such type of punishment was so severe and unbearable that none can survive even for a few moments. Because those centipedes, while sucking blood, made holes in the Skull. But Lo! Inspite of that punishment the nobelman (custodian of Husain’s head) felt no pain at all. Salahuddin ordered to put more and more centipedes on the head of the nobelman, which was done but all efforts were in vain. Finally Salahuddin Ayyubi ordered to put a tight cap full of centipedes on that nobelman’s head, so that no creature fell down from the head and the required result is accomplished. This was also done but to no effect. Torturers were greatly astounded further, when the tight cap was removed from Mujawir’s head, all the viewers were surprised to see that all the centipedes were found dead. Salahuddin asked the nobelman to reveal the secret of this miracle. Nobelman informed, when Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) was brought at Qasre Mualla, Qahera, he had lifted the chest on his head. ‘O Salahuddin, this is the secret of my Safety’.

Allah has granted this honour to install the Maqsoorah (Zarih) at the Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) to Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) and his successor, Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin. The event of Presentation of the Maqsoorah is also unique in the history of loyalty and faithfulness. Maqsoorah of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) was originally made for Syedi Abbas Alamdar’s Qabar Mubarak at Karbala, Iraq, after due measurements. But when this Maqsoorah (Zarih) reached at the Mashad of Syedi Abbas (A.S), it could not be installed on the place. The loyalty of Syedi Abbas (A.S) was also witnessed on that day as it had been witnessed on the day of Aashooraa. There a divine guidance came to the effect and informed by intuition that a sincere, faithful, loyal and devoted brother could not bear that the head of Rasoolullah’s grandson, Husain, buried in Qahera, Egypt, should be without Maqsoorah and that he should accept the gift of Maqsoorah for himself. Hence even after Shahadat, Syedi Abbas (A.S) paid his tribute to his Moula Husain (A.S) and presented his own Maqsoorah for Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S). When this above mentioned Maqsoorah was brought from Karbala to Qahera, it fitted upon the Mashad of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S) in such a way as if it had been fabricated for Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S).

It was the wish and Neeat of Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) that the Maqsoorah of Raas ul Imam al Husain’s opening ceremony should be done in his presence. It was the night of 19th Rajab, Friday 1385 A.H., the night of his Ajal (demise), when photograph of the Maqsoorah was presented to him with this good news that Maqsoorah is fixed upon the Raasul Husain (A.S) and is ready for inauguration ceremony. None can imagine the Joy and happiness of Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) at that moment. He expressed his extreme love for Imam Husain (A.S) and said, send an urgent telegram to the Egyptian Government and inform them that we are coming soon. But on the same night, this sincere devoted Dai of Ahlul Bait (A.S) Joined the eternal world. Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin (T.U.S) succeeded his illustrious father as the fifty second Dai al Mutlaq. He first undertook to travel to Qahera for the inauguration ceremony of Zarih of Raas ul Imam al Husain (A.S), which opened a new chapter, golden and glorious, for the followers of Ahlul Bait (A.S), known as Ummah.

 INJUNCTION REGARDING COMPLETE SALAWAAT.

LAHUMMA SALLAY WASALLIM, ALAL HUSAINE WA KARRIM, BARIK ALAEHE WA AZZIM, WARHAMHO RABBE TARAHHAM, MA ANHALLA QATRUS SAMAEE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE.

In this stanza Syedna Tahir Saifuddin offers Doa and says: (O Allah! send Salawaat and Salaam on Husain (A.S), give him high Status of Karamat. Grant him Barakat and Tazeem. Shower your Rahmat upon him akin to raindrops from the Sky. O Husain! our great sorrow and grief upon you. O leader of the Shohadaa). The injunction of offering Salawaat is openly ordained in the Quraan. The one who does not recite Salawaat on Mohammad (S.A.W.A) and his Itrat & Ahlul Bait (A.S) is not a Muslim. None of his/her acts are acceptable to Allah, whether it is Salaat or Zakaat, Soam of Ramadan or Haj etc. Founder of the Shafaee School of thought known as Idris Shafaee, wrote so many couplets in favour of Ahlul Bait (A.S), in which he discussed and described largely the above mentioned matter too. About Salawaat, Ibn Abi Shaiba is narratted in ‘Sunan Abi Daud’ that after the Wahi about Salawaat as revealed in Ayat No. fifty six of Surah Ahzab, people asked to Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), we know how to convey Salaam upon you; but we do not know how to send Salawaat upon you? Please teach us in what way should we recite Salawaat? Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) while educating Ummah said, "Say, Allahhumma Salle Ala Mohammadin Waala Ale Mohammadin Wa Barik Wa Sallim. Famous religious scholar of Ahle Sunnat, Allama Ibn Hajar has stated in Sawaiq Moharriqa that when few people sent defective Salawaat upon Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) like Allahhumma Salle Ala Mohammad, Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) guided them that never send defective and incomplete Salawaat. It is a matter of great sorrow and regret that after the crystal clear injunctions about the complete Salawaat, majority of the people including religious Scholars not only recite incomplete and defective Salawaat but also boldly write it. Many people say and write, Sallallaho Alaehay Wasallam, which is repugnant to the teachings of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A). people inquired from Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) what do you mean by defective and incomplete Salawaat? Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) replied, if anybody recites Salawaat upon me and do not mention my sons (Aale Mohammad, sons of Ali (A.S) and Fatema (A.S), that Salawaat is totally incomplete and defective and imperfect. It is a duty of a true Muslim to write and read always complete Salawaat, Sallallaho Alaehay Waalehee Wasallam. It is a matter of great regret that our Media totally neglect the crystal clear injunction of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A) regarding the complete Salawaat.

WA JADDEHI WA ABEHE, WAJHIL ILHAHIL WAJEHE, WA UMMEHE WA AKHIHEY, WA SAHBEHE WA BANEHAY, AHLUSSANA WASSANAEE, WA LAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAEE.

(O Allah! Send Salawaat upon Husain’s grandfather and father, who is the face of Allah’s Karam (Ali) and beauty, upon Husain’s mother, brother, Ansaar and successors, who are the people of the most venerated status and Noor. Our grief and sorrow upon Husain, O leader of the Shohadaa).

 WASILA, TEACHINGS OF QURAAN.

WAKSHIF BEHIM KURUBATI, ZAIF BEHIM BARAKATI, BADDIL BEHIM SAYEAATI, JAMEAHA HASANATI, YA RABBI ASMAA DOAE, WALAHFATA YA HUSAINA, YA SYEDASH SHOHADAE.

In this stanza Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) offers Doa to Allah Taala by Wasila of Imam Husain (A.S). Syedna al Muqaddas (R.A) communicates the guidance of Quraan in this stanza, he teaches to the Ummah that Wasila is very important and essential. Wasila is the source through which Allah removes the trials and tribulations upon the person and accepts his/her Doa. Wasila is that source through which Allah forgives the sins of a sinner, while he/she confesses finally and will not commit it again and pray for Istaghfaar. Wasila is acceptable only for those whom Allah has granted the Right of Shafaat and whose Walayaat is Farz. Yes they are none but Ahlul Bait (A.S). Imam Jafar us Sadiq (A.S) says, the right of Shafaat is owned by those specific chosen selected persons, who posses some extra ordinary unique covenant from Allah and they are the essence of the Universe, whom the Quraan has called Ibadehil Lazinastafa. Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) clearly and distinctly describes the divine power and sublime status of al Khamsatul Athaar or Panjatan Pak (A.S), mentioned in Quraan. Meditation and contemplation over those meanings can make us aware and acquainted with the fact. From the early days of Islam till today, this is a common practice of the faithful Muslims that they remember Ahlul Bait (A.S) in their Doa and ask to Allah with their powerful Wasila, when they are in need. Founder of Shafaee Sunni School of thought known as Imam Shafaee expressed his faith clearly in this couplet, he said.

Ahlul Bait (A.S) are my Wasila (medium towards contacting Allah). I do expect that tomorrow on the doomsday I will get my Namae Aamaal (report of the deeds) in my right hand through their Wasila (intercession and mediation), (Sawaeq Muhrriqa, pg. 178, Qahera). There are quite a number of these examples which reflect and show the faith of the Muslims. Syedna Tahir Saifuddin (R.A) invoked to Allah with the Wasila of al Khamsatul Athaar (A.S) and said in this stanza. With the Hurmat and Azamat of these personalities (O Allah!) You remove all my problems. Increase upon me your Barakaat. Do convert all my sins into Hasanaat (good deeds). O Allah! accept my Doa. O Husain! our sorrow and grief upon you. O leader of the Shohadaa.

I do not get the Sharaf and Saadat of the Ziarat of Moula Husain (A.S). Naturally it is not only my ambition but also humble submission and Doa to Allah Taala that He bestow upon me the opportunity to appear before the Qabar Mubarak of Moula Husain (A.S) with Dai al Imam al Husain (A.S). Where I shall offer Tasleemaat with Tazeemaat and ask my Hajaat and pay my tribute to Syedus Shohadaa, Moula Husain (A.S) by tears. Why should not I wish for that Mubarak day, when I will offer Sajda with Khuzoo and Khushoo in Mashad al Imam al Husain (A.S). O Nasime Saba! You always carry the message of the lover to the beloved, who is at a remote place. We request you to carry our tears to the Mashad al Husain (A.S) and place it over his Qabar Mubarak. Our countless Salaam to Imam Husain (A.S), to his severed sacred head, to his headless body, besmeared with blood and dust, on the sands of Karbala, to Ahlul Bait of Rasoolullah (S.A.W.A), companions and associates who laid their lives alongwith him in defence of Islam and to the Mazloom Syedaat Fatemiyaat and children led by Imam Ali Zainul Abedeen (A.S) and Syeda Zainab (A.S), who suffered all the trials and tribulations of long journeys, as prisoners, not only this but as a slave, the insult of being presented in the Court of Ibn Ziaad and Yazid Taghut and the hardship of the prison where they were kept in Kufa as well as Damishq. Our Salaam on Shafeeul Muznebeen, Imam Husain (A.S).
